Beauty Storage Ideas

Makeup Storage

As somewhat of a makeup hoarder, I have had to rethink a few things when it comes to beauty storage. I have managed to hold myself back from buying new makeup over the last year, mostly because apparently food and heating are quite expensive? And because I already own far too much. There are quite a few options out there for you on how to store your beauty products and I thought I would share with you some of my favourite ways of storing my products!

For storing my brushes and pencil products, I am a huge sucker for clear cups. I have a few clear acrylic pen holders from Amazon and at the moment I am loving my little cups from TK Maxx. I love the size of these, I can fit quite a few brushes in and you can easily find the brush you're looking for! I am not sure if they sell the exact same ones now, but I doubt you would struggle finding something similar at TK Maxx. If not, B&M Bargains is great for things like this.

Which brings me to my next little storage idea, which are the lovely little jars from B&M Bargains that I keep my cotton buds in. As I wear winged eyeliner every time I wear makeup, me and cotton buds have a pretty strong bond. These jars really are the cutest.

Next up is my makeup organiser - another beauty from TK Maxx. I think I paid around £16 for this around a year ago. I haven't been in since to see if they still have them, but I have seen things similar there a few times! These organisers really do help me keep things right in front of me and not just all over my dressing table. Again, following the clear and acrylic theme (classic blogger cliché).

My lipstick organiser has been a solid favourite for me for years, and you can even go and read a baby Gweni blogpost on it here! I have a feeling the company I bought it from went bust, but you can definitely get hold of similar ones elsewhere! Pretty sure Amazon sell similar ones. I went through a pretty expensive phase of buying MAC lipsticks every five minutes, so this lipstick holder is pretty much my saviour when coming to try and find the one I'm looking for.

However, it really is my dressing table that is queen of my beauty storage. When I moved into my new flat this year, I wanted to make sure I had a nice dressing table to do my makeup at. I did a fair bit of research and fell in love with the Malm dressing table from Ikea. At the moment it retails at £79. The drawer is so big that I have somehow managed to fit ALL of my makeup palettes in it. And I have faaaar too many palettes, as you can see from the picture!

As I am lucky enough to live by myself, I have a lot of space to myself. But one other storage idea is the option of using external storage. Big Yellow Self Storage is now offering small storage lockers, which are ideal for storing away your products that you don't use very often! The small storage lockers provide a good alternative to having to pay for a whole big storage room. They have a minimum of 7 days as well, ideal for short term storage. There are so many Big Yellow storage points across the country as well, pretty handy for us who move around a lot. My plans are very much in the air after I finish my postgrad, so it is likely that I will be making use of the Big Storage small storage come June.

PHEW. Big well done to you if you read all of that post! I hope you got a little insight into how I store my ridiculous collection of beauty products. Thank you for reading.

Green & Spring Revitalising Range

Green & Spring Candles

Green & Spring

In the light of Spring finally coming around, I thought I would share with you my thoughts on some Spring & Green products that I can't get enough of at the moment! I actually wrote about their night cream a few months ago, yet another beautiful product that you can read all about here

I fell in love with Spring & Green a fair few months ago now on Instagram, I really love their design. The little birds are just the cutest! The products are all inspired by the British countryside, and you can really smell it in their products. The Revitalising range is no exception.

The Revitalising range from Green & Spring is the ultimate Spring scent. It is incredibly fresh and clean. The main scent is the peppermint, but it is not overpowering at all. You can also smell the hints of different flowers and definitely a hint of the fennel. Honestly, I am so hopeless at describing smells! It smells SO good, that perfect fresh scent to say goodbye to those miserable Winter months!

I have been using this body wash for quite a long time now and I really am quite the fan. As it is an exfoliator, it does have the little exfoliating beads in it. These work really well to get rid of dead skin and leaving your skin feeling rejuvenated. I particularly like using it a couple of weeks after I've had my legs waxed, when the hairs are starting to grow through again. As it does contain peppermint and spearmint, the body wash does tingle a little on the skin. I am quite a big fan of this, adds that extra dimension to my shower!

I love the look of these candles so much that I couldn't bring myself to light them for the longest time. I have been waiting for Spring to come along, because the scent really would have been wasted at any other time of the year. Now that the sun is shining through the windows, I've started lighting the candles to fill my flat with the fresh scent of these candles. Again, the scent is not over powering, but it really does lift my mood and they're getting me very excited about Summer.

The candles come in a set of three that come in a pretty little box. You really do only need to light one candle to get the desired effect. For someone who really struggles with lighting candles, having three is great for me! They last me that little bit longer.  They would make a lovely gift! If you're still looking for Mother's Day gifts - definitely check these candles out! I have noticed that there is a special Mother's Day treat on the website as well, definitely worth a look.

All in all, I have been really impressed by Green & Spring products. The products are all of very high quality and they smell so good - all very unique but beautiful scents. I really do think that they have encapsulated the British countryside in their products.

Thank you for reading I hope you liked my review! Do let me know if you've tried any Green & Spring products!

Trichotillomania FAQs

Over the past few months my trich has come to light with a few people. And I've found that there are a few questions that seem to come up every time it has been brought up. So here are my responses to these questions, things that actually go through my head but I'm too polite to say it to people's face. This post really isn't intending to sound rude, I'm just having a bit of a laugh. Because if you don't laugh - you'll cry, am I right?

Trichotillomania FAQ

Doesn't it hurt?

Yes. I am pulling hair out of my body. Does waxing hurt? Yes. Does tweezing hurt? Yes. Does pulling out your own hair hurt? Yes. Ok, I'm being a bit dramatic. It doesn't always hurt that much. I've become relatively desensitised to the pain, it really does depend on how much you've been pulling that day. Obviously, the longer I spend clawing at my lashes - the more irritated the lash line is going to get. Your skin can get pretty inflamed and that can be pretty painful, especially when you're trying to cover it up with makeup. Sometimes the lashes don't hurt at all to come out, but some absolutely kill. Wooo, my own special kind of Russian Roulette.

Why do you do it?

HAHA I DON'T KNOW. It's an impulse-control disorder, I can't help it. Sure, it's worse when I'm stressed or frustrated but just in the same way that your anxiety gets worse if you're stressed. Chemicals in the brain yo.

Have you tried [insert something I've tried]?

I have tried everything. Therapy? Hypnotherapy? Pills? Covering up the area? Wearing gloves? Fidget toys? Cutting my nails short? Wearing glasses? Yes. Yes I have tried everything. I do not want this, I do not want to be wearing false lashes and winged eyeliner every day. I don't want to be pulling out my own hair, so please don't patronise me. Unfortunately, there is no cure for trich and the best thing we can do is just to try and keep ourselves happy and not let it get us down.

Oh, so it's like biting your nails then?

This is a tricky one. If it helps you understand the concept of trich, then by all means use it as an example. But I'm sorry, it just isn't the same thing. Everyone bites their nails. I'm not saying that there aren't people who don't bite their nails to the same compulsive extent as hair pullers, I'm sure there are people who do that! But on the whole, it is usually just a bit of a bad habit. Nail biters can usually control how far they'll go with their nail biting, whereas we really just cannot control our compulsion to pull out our hair and we will carry on going until we are bald. So sexy. (Although, I could be completely wrong on this one, I'm not a doctor after all.)

Aren't you scared their not going to grow back?

Do people not realise that's quite a horrible thing to say to someone? I know that they do grow back but yes, yes I am a bit worried that one day they'll give up on me and I'll be a bald alien baby for the rest of my life. Thanks for reminding me about something that I inevitably have very little control over.

I actually feel a bit bad writing this, I know most people aren't trying to be patronising when they ask these kinds of questions. But hey, what's the point of having a blog if you can't rant and be a bit sarcastic??

Thank you for reading.

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day Gift Ideas

With Valentine's Day over and done with, the next holiday coming up is Mother's Day on the 26th March! I thought I would write a little guide of ideas to treat your Mum to this year. I really like giving presents that are a bit more personalised, especially for days like Mother's and Father's Day. I've added a few different ideas and hopefully there will be something to suit your Mum's tastes and your budget!

The Mug (£7.99)

Let's be honest, your Mum probably consumes more coffee than you. What's a better gift than getting her a mug? They're a classic, safe present as well. You can never have too many mugs. I really love this little Mother Hen mug. My Mum has always wanted chickens and we have a lot of random chicken ornaments in the kitchen, so this mug is perfect for her.

The Candle (£13)

I mean, is this a gift guide if candles aren't involved? I think you'd struggle to find a person on this planet who doesn't love a good candle. You can buy candles pretty much everywhere you look, but I do tend to get my Mum scented candles. I like to get her clean scents, such as White Linen from Yankee Candle or Seychelles from The White Company.

The Prosecco (£22.50)

If there's one thing Mums like more than coffee, it is probably prosecco. What better gift is there to give than a personalised bottle of prosecco?! I really love the idea of this, especially as you can keep the bottle afterwards. I made sure to add the Mother's Day date as well to add that extra touch. This could be a good birthday present as well! There are a few different types of prosecco that you can choose on the I Just Love It website. You can even get a bottle personalised that comes with a box of chocolates as well!

The Flowers (£39.99)

Again, another classic. Can you go wrong with a bunch of flowers? I know I love receiving them! They make the house look so pretty and smell so fresh. There are a lot of places online that you can order flowers from and they can suit any of your price range. I just added a bouquet for £39.99 because it fitted in the guide. Although I would advise spending at least £20 and make sure you order it in time!

As soon as I saw this I thought it was a really lovely gift. You enter your address details on the website, the company finds your local map and puts it in the frame. The frame and map inside is of really high quality, which is pretty important as it is on the higher end of the budget. It is something that looks pretty but it also has a more personal, homely touch. I'm really excited to give this to my Mum. Everyone who I've showed so far has really liked it! Although I chose my home address, you can choose wherever you want! Perhaps you and your Mum have a favourite place to visit or a special holiday memory that you'd like to encapsulate.

Hopefully that has given you some ideas for Mother's Day coming up! If you like the idea of getting your gifts personalised, do go and check out I Just Love It - I've been really impressed by them. The delivery was really quick and the gifts were of really high quality.

Have a lovely Mother's Day and thank you for reading.
