With the re-opening of the Sixth Sense Salon around the corner, I was invited along with a few other bloggers to try out the new salon. I have been to another hair event before and really enjoyed it, but this one was much smaller - with just six of us bloggers there all together!

We started by being given a little talk about the salon. From the off, you could tell the two owners were really passionate about the salon and their staff. Personally, I love going to salons where the teams are really friendly and want to chat to you. Nothing worse than when all of the hairdressers are talking amongst themselves!

The refurb was discussed, they had decided to go for a distressed wood with an antique french twist to it. They had also gotten in local graffiti artists in to do some artwork for the salon. I particularly liked the woman with the orange and green hair that was painted on a wall at the back of the salon. They had also gotten an artist in to do a really beautiful Santorini piece in the treatment room.

One of the biggest changes to the salon was the introduction of the treatment room. After spending a considerable amount of time in there, I can confirm that that was money well spent. The treatment room was located at the back of the salon. The room was dark with purple mood lighting that reflected onto the Santorini paintwork. The room was intended to be used for treatments as well as washing hair - as that was where the basins and massage chairs were located.

We heard a little bit more about what the salon had achieved over the past few years. They had won numerous awards, beating a lot of big names around Birmingham for some! They also spoke about their work with those who were suffering with hair loss resulting from cancer. For example, the staff were given sensitivity training by oncology nurses. It seemed as though the salon was able to make a real difference and you could tell the team were really passionate about it.

Another great addition to the refurb was that they were now licensed to serve alcohol! If you have spent any time with me at all, you will know that I love a good cocktail. So now, you can get a glass of prosecco with your haircut! How exciting! They even have named some of their blowdries after certain cocktails. A Mai Tai blowdry is a messy, beach look and a Manhattan is a sleek and smooth look! I really loved this idea.

We then heard from a Wella representative at the salon who talked about their new energy coding system. The new energy coding system was one that helped figure out the exact products you need for your hair to keep it in the best possible condition. All of the System Professional products (by Wella) are available at the store to purchase as well.

After hearing all about the salon, we headed over to have our own personalised treatments! My stylist for the evening was Tasha and she was really lovely. The first thing we did was the energy code questionnaire. It had a variety of questions about my hair, think along the lines of whether it was dry, wavy, frizzy, split ends etc. Once we did that, it recommended a selection of products that were suited for my hair as well as a treatment.

At the moment, my hair needs a serious cut and it has two lots of roots. It is pretty tragic, I will not deny that. So Tasha decided that she would pop a toner in my hair as well the treatment, which was really kind of her! This was to help blend out the colours in my hair.

I was then ushered off to the treatment room, which was easily my favourite part of the evening. As soon as I sat down, I was given the controls to the Japanese massage chairs. They were so good. I took a few snapchats at this point, where I can confirm that I looked like a thumb. Tasha worked her magic on my hair. I was given a head massage while there, which is by far the best part of getting your hair done. Honestly, how do hairdressers do it? I need their skills! When my massage was done, Tasha popped a hot towel around my head and I was left to chill with the other bloggers.

Once the hot towel had finished, Tasha washed the product out of my hair and we headed off to the styling chair. We decided to do mermaid/princess hair, as my hair is so long and blonde anyway! She blasted the hair dryer through my hair and then popped the System Professional Luxe Oil on my hair. This oil smelt amazing and my hair was so soft after being given a full blow dry! I'm really looking forward to using the oil myself at home.

She then curled all of my hair, making sure the curls were going away from my face. The others were bringing round food at this time, which was really lovely. I love me some nibbles! Once my whole head of hair was curled (not an easy feat), Tasha brushed through the curls and gave it a spritz with the hairspray. And voilà, I had princess hair!!

I was completely obsessed with the look that Tasha had created. I really loved the colour that the toner had given my hair, it really did blend through all of my roots. The curls were bouncy but not too tight, it just looked really pretty. Especially from the back.

After taking many photos, I headed over to see how everyone else was doing. Curls were definitely the preference of the night, with only Laura opting for a straight hair look. Everyone's hair looked really beautiful - just a shame we weren't heading out for real Mai Tais afterwards!

The team very generously gave us our goodie bags, which included our recommended products and a few other goodies like a paddle brush! I am really excited to use all of them.

All in all, I had a really good experience at the salon. The staff were super friendly, knowledgable and great at their jobs. I felt very welcomed there and enjoyed spending my evening with them. Tasha did a really wonderful job on my hair and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a hairdresser in Sutton Coldfield or the Birmingham area in general.

Thank you again for having me and best of luck with the new salon!
