2016 Round-up

To celebrate the end of a somewhat tumultuous year, I thought I would be selfish and share with you my favourite blogposts from my blog this year!

hairpulling help eyelashes
This post was very personal to me, especially at a time when I was really suffering. I definitely need to get some more trich content up next year! I loved sharing some of the little things you can do to help deal with something as complicated as a hair pulling disorder.

Morphe Review
You know what, there is nothing I love more than writing negative reviews. This was definitely one of them! I feel a little bit bad that the pictures are actually quite nice in the post. The day I took the photos was a day where I was really getting to grips with my new camera.

Nouveau Lashes Strip Lashes
These Nouveau Lashes lashes are my all time favourite lashes, they really have saved my life this year. As I have had pretty much zero lashes all the way through 2016, it was really lovely to come across a pair of lashes that I love so much. They make my eyes look pretty, which really does make up for the loss of confidence I get from having bald lids.

Beauty blogger confessions
This was just a fun post to write and to share to my fellow beauty bloggers. I know there are so many of us that do these things on a daily basis! It's always nice to write funny pieces, rather than just reviews all of the time.

Slim Sublime
I really enjoyed reviewing this product as it was out of my comfort zone. I think I will be buying myself a new tub in the new year as well, to try and shift those Christmas calories! It really did work and it was fun to work with a pretty big brand!

pulling eyelashes out
The blogging community is amazing, but what's even more amazing is that I have been able to find fellow trichsters. The bloggers included have been a real source of support to me this year and the least I could do was share the love back.

Urban Decay Vice Lipsticks
Honestly, I'm just really proud of the photography in this blogpost. The post itself is relatively funny, (or at least I think so) and I wrote it at a time where I was having a bit of a bloggers block.

And that's it folk! That's my list of my favourite blogposts from this year. It's been really lovely having a scroll through the last 12 months of G Beauty, seeing how far I've come and to see how consistently I posted. I made it my mission this year to post once a week, and I stuck to it for the best part! Well done Gweni, you ledge.

Here's to a happy and healthy 2017! Thank you for reading.

Tweepi Hair Removal Wand

It's no secret that I am a little bit on the hairy side, so when I was offered to test out the Tweepi hair removal wand I just thought why not! I was a little skeptical, I mean it does look very different to what I'm used to but I had nothing to lose. Apart from some facial hair, of course. Just to give you some context, I've been waxing (with Veet easy wax strips) my upper lip for around six years.

The box it comes in is very small and sleek, and inside there is the wand, the cooling gel patch and the instructions. The wand itself is very light and portable, and the patch is tiny. They would take up a hardly any space in a wash bag - making it good for holidays and travelling. Something most people probably don't have to worry about, but I usually take a wax strip with me on holiday!

As for using it, it was relatively easy. It is as simple as bending the wand into a U shape and then twisting the wand. It pulls the hairs out with the rotation of the wand, and the hairs get caught in the little gaps. It is advertised as pain-free but unfortunately it was not - not wholly unexpected for a hair-remover! The first few times I did it, it hurt a little but I got used to it pretty quickly - just like you do with waxing and threading. Actually, if I were to liken it to anything, it would definitely be threading.

With it being my first time testing out the wand, it took me a little while to do it - I'd estimate around 10 minutes in total. Hopefully it'll take me less time in the future. It's left me with a smooth upper lip, having removed pretty much all of the hair. There were a few stubborn ones that I'll probably have to tackle with a tweezer, but all in all a very effective hair remover!

In comparison to waxing, using the Tweepi saves me all of the mess that comes with waxing. I usually have to cut off a piece and make sure that I do it before I get in the shower, this is something I don't have to worry about with the Tweepi. But on the other hand, waxing is quicker as it gets all the hair off in pretty much just two pulls. There are pros and cons to both, but the two leave my skin feeling smooth and hair-free. It is just the matter of how quickly the hair grows back to test now!

2 months later

At first, I didn't think it took any more or less time for the hair to grow back compared with waxing. However, the longer the time has gone on, I've realised that the hair has become finer and less noticeable and taking longer to grow back. I didn't think this would happen at all, and have been very pleasantly surprised!

Don't get me wrong though, it does not get any less painful the more you use it. It makes my eyes water a little at the start, then you get used to the pain and get on with it. It still takes me a little while to do it, and some hairs can be a little difficult to get - but overall it's a very simple process. I haven't tried cleaning it as such, but I do stretch the wand and blow out the little hairs. I'm sure a quick rinse would do the job though.

I don't tend to use the cooling gel patch at all, as I didn't feel like it helped me much at all. I suppose my skin is very used to hair removal, perhaps it is a little less sensitive and is not in need of the patch!

I have definitely been converted to a hair removal wand user over wax for my upper lip hair. It's much less messy than waxing, the hair takes longer to grow back and has come back finer. The wand is extremely portable and easy to use, once you get the hang of it. If anyone is looking for an alternative hair removal product, you can't go wrong with Tweepi.

You can get your Tweepi wand on the Tweepi website or on Amazon below!

What do you guys think? Would you give the Tweepi a go?

Christmas Makeup, G Beauty

With Christmas just around the corner, I thought I'd squeeze one little festive blogpost in all about Christmas Makeup! One of my favourite parts of this time of year is how I get to do my makeup almost every night, usually to drink some kind of bubbles. I thought I'd share some of my favourite picks for the season.

Red Lips

If there's one time of year to wear red lippy, it is Christmas. I love colour co-ordinating my lipstick to things, so it's an even bigger win when I get to co-ordinate to a whole holiday. I love the pinky reds, deep reds and blue-toned lipsticks for the period. The two photographed are MAC lipsticks, in D for Danger and Ruby Woo. The deeper the red, the better! I've recently been given the So Marilyn lipstick by Charlotte Tilbury as well, and I am LOVING that for the evening. Don't forget to line your lips beforehand to make your lipstick last longer!

Glittery Smokey Eyes

I love going all out on my eyes at Christmas time! I am all about the golds and reds on my eyelids and then darker, matte colours to smoke out the crease. I've photographed The Balm Nude Dude and the first Urban Decay Naked palette here. I love the red, cranberry and purple shades of the Nude Dude palette and of course, Half Baked in the Naked palette is perfect for Christmas. The bolder, the better.

Fluttery Eyelashes

Apart from lipstick, nothing completes a look quite as well as false lashes! Although I wouldn't advise going HUGE with lashes, no one wants to look tacky, but I am a fan of big ones. I love the Ardell wispies lashes, especially with a bit of mascara on! I love a fluttery lash to pair with my smokey eye.

That concludes my festive blogpost! Hope you liked it. What are your festive picks?

Thank you for reading!

#LashGang Party

G Beauty: #LashGang Party

At the end of November, I was lucky enough to attend to the #LashGang first birthday party! After working with Nouveau Lashes for the past year, it was really exciting to be heading down to London to celebrate their first birthday.

If you're not already aware, Nouveau Lashes is the ultimate lash brand. They provide SVS and LVL training and have their own amazing strip lashes that I am a huge fan of. If you follow me on Instagram, you'll see me wearing their Natural Style 1 false lashes in pretty much every single look. Of course, I put on my favourite lashes on for the event itself!

I headed down to the event with Amina from Ali & Her and Debra from Debra Bow in Debra's car. I know Amina from a few events in Birmingham and we get on really well but it was my first time meeting Debra! She turned out to be great company and I had a lot of fun chatting to the two during the 2.5 hour drive.

We were promptly greeted by the #LashGang team at NL HQ in Croydon. We went and had a little look around the venue, taking as many pictures as possible! Beth, Em and Scott had made the venue look super pretty, with balloons and vintage-esque crockery for lunch. I was really impressed by the effort that went into the event.

The party started with my all time favourite party game - pass the parcel! Honestly, it was embarrassing just how excited I was about this game. There were lashes and vouchers in each layer, and a fair amount of us won a little something in this game.

My favourite part of any blogger event, is to chat to other bloggers. It was so lovely to meet some new bloggers and to catch up with some old blogger friends. My blogging twinnie, Sophie from Pretty and Polished is also a member of the #LashGang and it was so lush to see her, as I don't get to very often.

The photo booth was definitely one of my highlights, it was so much fun! We got to take pictures and they'd be printed within seconds with a little #LashGang border around them. I've already got all of mine up on my notice board. We had a few epic fails trying to fit more than 2 of us in a booth, but it was all good fun.

After a lot of mingling, we were finally allowed to dig into the food. There were little finger sandwiches, scones and strawberries dipped in chocolate. I had a great time. The sandwiches were SO nice, I ate far too many and really shouldn't have gone back for seconds. #yolo #cantholdmeback

Then we were all escorted upstairs to try and destroy the Unicorn Piñata! I have no idea where they managed to get hold of one, but it was so cute and was so funny watching everyone try to break its poor little body. I was absolutely useless at it, of course. After a few beatings, it was decapitated and we all had a piece of its insides.

A much anticipated part of the day was definitely the little awards ceremony. The names of the awards were really cute, with things like Babliest Babe and MUA All Day. Somehow, I ended up being short listed for two of the awards!! The first being Vlogging Queen and Wannabe Bestie. As you can imagine, I was absolutely over the moon when I won Wannabe Bestie!

Beth said a few really lovely words about me, my personality and openness about trich. I actually got a bit soppy and emotional about this, it's really weird to have someone speak about me like that in front a group of people! It was really exciting and I feel very humbled to have won the award. Somehow, I have duped the internet to thinking I am someone you'd want to be friends with.

Everyone got a framed certificate of their award to take home and apparently there's a gift in the post, how exciting! Massive congratulations to everyone else who won as well, especially to my fellow brum blogger Amina who (much deservedly!) won the MUA All Day award! We hung around a bit longer after the awards, taking photos, eating the leftovers and having a look at our goodie bags before heading back to Birmingham.

I had such a fun day and so glad I was able to be there to celebrate the #LashGang's first birthday! The #LashGang team have always been so good to me, especially about my Trich. They've been extremely supportive and accommodating, always sending me lashes to cover up my patches and helping me share the word about Trich. They even interviewed myself and Sophie about Trich a while back, which you can read here if you like! It was nice to be able to show my gratitude in real life. Nouveau Lashes really is such a great brand to work with and I feel really proud to be a #LashGang member.

Massive thank you to Em and Beth who run the #LashGang. I really enjoyed meeting them both and chatting to them, they were both so lovely and really made us feel welcome. I am looking forward to another year of working with the #LashGang!

G Beauty: Kylie Lip Kits in 22 and Posie K

If you have any sort of interest in the beauty world, you will have probably come across the Kylie lip kits. As a complete and utter sucker, I of course had to get my hands on one. I resisted for a pretty long time but then one night, temptation got the better of me and I got my mitts on 22 and Posie K.

The marketing of the products is pretty good really. By making them only available at certain times gives them that certain allure, making them almost unattainable. The harder they are to get, the more you want them. I wonder if some guy once played hard to get with Kylie (or probably someone on her team) and she decided to translate this into marketing? Either way, it makes it exciting to try and get the kits - almost as if you've won when you do get one! Let's be honest, it's working.

I'm not really bothered about the Kardashians to be honest. I think it's pretty amazing that they've managed to make so much money, all things considered. Perhaps it's a reflection on today's society? All I know is that they are all pretty successful women - something that I wholeheartedly support. It does make me feel a little bit pathetic when I think about how young Kylie is and how she's making millions selling these products online, while I still consider beans and cheese a decent meal.

Anyhow, on with the review. I bought these two lip kits, along with Candy K which I gave away to Eboni from Eboni & Ivory as a twitter giveaway - you can read her fab review here! As you can see, I am a little bit slow at writing my review. Oops! I think it cost me around $100, which was around £60-70 at the time. Looking back now, that's quite a lot of money isn't it! I ended up having to pay £20 custom charges as well, which was PRETTY annoying but hey ho - what can a girl do.

I got a lot of wear out of them when I first got them, as I had just finished exams and was enjoying freedom and alcohol. The colours were both really lovely for bold Summer colours. But since then, I've hardly used them. I like them, but I just don't love them.

22 is a really beautiful orange red colour, a colour I had been lusting after for a long time. When I was a little bit more tanned, this colour was really lovely for evenings. Posie K is a purple pink, perhaps a little less bold than 22 but still super pretty. I like it for when I don't want a bold lip, but I  also don't want a nude lip.

The formula of the pencils are really creamy, making them really easy to use and they don't tug on the skin - like some lip pencils can. They're really pigmented as well. I don't think you technically need the lip liner if you're using a liquid lipstick, but it's a nice extra that you can use with other lipsticks as well. I suppose the liquid lipsticks are pretty drying, so the lip liners act as a kind of buffer from that.

The liquid lipsticks themselves are beautifully pigmented and smell lovely. I'm sure you already know by now that they have a distinct vanilla scent! They're easy to use, the applicator is really soft and it really is no hassle at all popping it on. It dries pretty quickly, but watch out to not get it on your teeth when it is still damp!

I'm not really the biggest fan of liquid lipsticks when it comes to their look on my lips. I find it makes my lips look sort of dry and one dimensional? Is that just me? I don't know. Maybe it's just on my lips? I just think they make my lips look really dry! They feel pretty dry as well to be honest.

If you're not really doing anything, the product lasts a really long time on my lips. But, let's be honest, you're not wearing lipstick to do nothing. Most of the time, I wear lipstick because I am going out drinking. Like every single time I've worn these! I expected them to last longer than they did, which is a huge shame. It tends to come off when you drink. On top of that, they're not great for reapplying. It's as if you're not supposed to have more than one layer of it? It goes all lumpy and icky if you apply more than one layer. I know it makes sense to only have one layer, but it does make for an irritating experience when I'm just trying to get some VKs down me. God forbid that you wake up still wearing it, it feels SO grim in the morning. (Don't judge me ok, gal just enjoys a VK!)

I feel as though I've moaned a lot about these, but they're not actually bad at all, I just don't think I like liquid lipsticks that much. The pigment is insane and the colours are beautiful, I'm just not a huge fan of the consistency on my lips.

What do you think? Have you bought one and did you like it?

Kitts Boutique Silk Pillowcase

G Beauty: Silk Pillowcase Review

G Beauty: Silk Pillowcase Review

G Beauty: Silk Pillowcase Review

G Beauty: Silk Pillowcase Review

As a beauty blogger, I'm always interested in new and different ways of mixing up my beauty routine. The latest in this quest has definitely been my silk pillowcase from Kitts Boutique

Over the past couple of years, silk pillowcases have been doing the rounds. I never really considered it as something I'd invest in myself, I am a little bit on the poor side as a student. But it was something that really interested me. I mean, how much difference could a silk pillowcase really make?

A lot apparently.

I have found that my skin is much smoother in the morning, my hair is less frizzy and my night creams work better on my skin. I really love the feel of silk on my face as I sleep, I find that it is much more comfortable and I think it may have even led to me having a better night sleep.

The pillowcase that I've been testing out is the Mulberry Silk Pillow Case from Kitts Boutique. The pillowcase comes with a little bag, so that you can take your case on trips with you, and also comes in a lovely box as well - making it a really great gift idea.

The box is a really lovely touch in my opinion, it would have been so easy to just have the little silk bag. The box adds that little bit of extra luxury to it. The bag itself is super handy, especially if you get really attached to your pillowcase! I am yet to want to take it away with me, but I know a lot of people suffer from allergies etc and need their own linen. The bag helps you to be able to take your pillowcase away with you, and leaving it next to the bed gives you that gentle reminder to not forget to take it home with you!

This makes a really good higher end gift, I know I'm sure my Mum and Grandmother would love gifts like these. At £45 for one or £85 for a pair, it is definitely a splurge. You can't expect to pay pennies for luxury though! If you have that kind of money, then these are a really lovely gift. Or if you feel as though you need a treat, think of £45 as an investment in future you!

What do you guys think? Would you like a silk pillowcase?

Perversion and Criminal Urban Decay Vice Lipstick, G Beauty

Ever since getting my first Naked palette, I've been a huge fan of the Urban Decay eyeshadows. I always kept an eye on their other products, having tried some of their eyeliners and even having one of their old vice lipsticks. But was never really that impressed, until they brought out these new Vice lipsticks.

I love the boldness of bringing out 100 lipsticks in one go, it's so much more profound than just bringing out say, 20. They fully rebranded their lipsticks, and the formulas are so much better than the old ones. I really love the silver design as well, they look so sleek. And obviously, the Vice Vault was to die for. They had one at the Bloggers Blog Awards and I was just in complete awe of it. How sad to have those kind of feelings toward lipstick!

As a pretty die hard MAC lipstick fan, it really does take a lot to persuade me towards other lipsticks. But the one clincher for me was the price of the Vice lipsticks, retailing at £15. I do wonder if this was a clever marketing ploy from UD, as MAC lipsticks are £15.50. Either way, I was a sucker and I ended up buying two!

The new range has a few different formulas, but the two I chose are both Comfort Mattes. As I have found myself preferring Matte formulas recently, it made sense for me to choose this formula. The formula really is lovely, they're really creamy but have a very matte effect on the lip. They're not drying on the lip at all, they're pigmented and last a really long time on the lip. I do find I have to top up often if I'm drinking or something, but otherwise I've been impressed with their longevity.

The two shades I have are Criminal (pink) and Perversion (black). I absolutely did not need either of them when buying the two shades, but have ended up using them quite a lot! Criminal was definitely used much more during the Summer, especially when I was waitressing. The colour is really pretty, it's a bit more bright than a pink nude, but not so bright that I ended up looking like a barbie doll. I have no idea why it's called Criminal though, I usually think of criminals as being ugly? Or maybe it should be criminal that it's such a pretty colour? Pretty deep stuff, Gweni.

Perversion was a lipstick that there was no way I was not going to buy. I've been looking for a black lipstick for a really long time, and the only ones I ever found were really expensive or cheap and a bit terrible. So thank you UD for bringing this lippy out! I have actually managed to wear black lipstick TWICE now, and I personally think that's a pretty huge achievement. Once was around Halloween time, pretty fitting really! I never took any selfies though, curse of being always running late ey. I do tend to use a black kohl eyeliner as a lip liner though, just to do line the outside of my lips, as it can be pretty daunting just going all in with a black lipstick. I've absolutely loved wearing black lipstick though, and definitely need to go out more so I have an excuse to wear it more!

All in all, I've been extremely impressed with these lipsticks. When I decide that my lipstick collection is too small (jokes, that will never happen) I will definitely be investing in some more of these. In the meantime, I will be trying to convince anyone and everyone to buy me the Vice Vault for Christmas!

I've added a couple of links below if you wanted to have a look at them yourself! Lipsticks are always a good Christmas present - just saying!

Do you have any of these lipsticks? Do you like them?

Thank you for reading!
