At the start of the year, I was lucky enough to be sent some products from Natural Potions. Amongst my package, I was given some hot oil hair treatments to test. I've been so busy over the past few months with my degree that I've only just gotten round to testing them! Slap on the wrists for being a bad blogger.
Natural Potions is a brand I came across on Instagram, created by Fatimah and Mohammed in Leicester. All of the products are handmade from natural ingredients and the packaging is 100% recyclable. I really liked the
Gift Set, you can read my post here on it, and so I've been really looking forward to using these treatments.
The treatments are fairly easy to use, they just demand you to commit 30 minutes of your day. As baths seem to be all the rage at the moment, it probably wouldn't be too hard for most people to find that time. I've just been useless recently!
There are a couple of different ways you can use the treatments. I decided to cover my hair in the oil, wrap it in a hot wet towel, wait 30 minutes and then shampoo and condition as normal. I was given a sample bottle and I used about half (so 30ml) and I have long hair. I then ran a towel under a hot water tap (our water goes pretty hot), squeezed out some of the water and popped it on my head. Getting the hot towel on was a little bit tricky, as I obviously don't want to burn my hands. But once it's on, it was comfortable (minus water dripping down my back!). I would definitely advise doing this in the bath instead!
So it turns out I needed to wash my hair three times to get this all out. I'm not sure if I put too much on or if I didn't wash it out properly the first time? Who knows. It was hard to know just how much of an impact the oil made, but I did feel like it made it feel stronger, healthier and softer. When the oil was still in after the first wash, my curls were really tidy with perfect little ringlets, they just looked a little oily. I will definitely just be doing my ends next time, and make sure I shampoo at least three times to try and get the oil all out!
Thank you for reading!
